9-12 Assessment
-
Assessments offer valuable insights to guide teaching methods, monitor student progress, and serve as the foundation for evaluations. While certain assessments are mandatory for all students, teachers also employ others to determine specific instructional needs. Various types of assessment enable the collection of data about students, so teachers can make informed decisions and design effective instruction
Unit Tests
-
The high school English curriculum schedules unit assessments to provide teachers and students adequate data to evaluate student progress and overall achievement.
-
These assessments include multiple choice, Technology Enhanced Items, short answer, and extended responses. Variety in assessment offers teachers additional formative assessment insights and better aligns to the format and rigor of the state tests.
Informal & Formal Essays
-
Students write in response to reading and discussion each day. Some of these shorter, more frequent writings are expanded into multi-paragraph essays to support teaching and learning relating to composing, written expression, and mechanics.
-
These essays are submitted via NoRedInk, allowing teachers and students to take advantage of program tools, to ensure timely feedback, and to continually develop students' eletronic writing portfolios.
Edmentum ExactPath
-
In Exact Path, students automatically receive a personalized learning path. The direct instruction and activities use a mastery learning approach to adapt to each student's needs and remediate with prerequisite Building Blocks as needed.
-
Edmentum ExactPath is implemented in the English 9 curriculum to provide additional literacy support to students as they transition from middle school to high school.
VA Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests
-
Beginning with the second year of implementation (2022-2023) and beyond, legislation requires that the grades 3-8 reading and mathematics growth assessments be administered to students once in the fall and once in the winter (mid-year) during the school year. In addition to the growth assessments, the SOL tests for grade 3-8 reading and mathematics will continue to be administered.
-
SOL Growth tests provide valuable data to inform instructional planning in whole group, small group, and 1:1 settings.
